HOUSTON — Union Pacific today posted several images on Facebook and Twitter of its specially painted “We Are One” locomotive, which celebrates the company’s diversity and honors its Employee Resource Groups. The locomotive was unveiled Saturday at a Juneteenth event in Houston. The locomotive, a product of the railroad’s North Little Rock, Ark., shops, is scheduled to tour the system this summer [see “Union Pacific plans tour …,” Trains News Wire, June 18, 2021]. The railroad had previously released teaser images and a diagram of the paint scheme.

  1. Black, white, and gray , are ok. The other colors are bad. Re paint it properly, with silver trucks, and tanks.

  2. I think Ocean Network Express might have a lawsuit here. UP better not paint one pink for October.

  3. Grateful for this effort … sure, some might say it’s a small piece of the puzzle, but even the largest puzzle adds up after a time. I think American Biz needs to do this, again and again: to remind people of what it means to be human, to be an American. That we are ONE! And, yes, it’s good for business, too. A strong and vital nation, united in effort and hope, makes for a far better place in which to work and pursue happiness. And thanks to “Trains” for posting this. Keep up the good work.

  4. Worked with enough of you “Rednecks” as a former Mop/UP Hoghead! Get a life, and come up to the 21st century. Proud of the UP for such insight, be it the military power, heritage units or now this cool one. Would be honored to run such a locomotive. Way to go UP!!!!!!!

  5. Except the white areas. I have never understood why you would put white on a locomotive. The old KCS and SOO locos always looked filthy. Also is there a significance to the #1979 or just a random unit?

    1. UP does maintain their heritage/special interest fleet pretty well, unlike NS. But it’s gonna require some extra buffing, that’s fo’ sho’.

  6. Nice looking Engine, l like that UP is trying to get the message out that We Are One that All lives matter not just 1. Although most of the public won’t see this engine it will mostly be us Railfans but it’s still good to get the message out.

  7. Homophobia is an ugly, ugly thing. Been dealing with people like you my whole life. It’s boring. Go back under your rock.
