I operated this locomotive many times between Columbia, S.C. and Spencer, N.C. Norfolk Southern painted it in Southern Railway colors upon the suggestion / request of Ben Lee; Local Chairman BLE at Charlotte, N.C.
It should be noted – in this photo, we are looking at the rear of the locomotive. It was set up, as most Southern Ry. units, to run long hood forward. Despite having the low short hood.
