MONTREAL — Ontario and Quebec announced plans on Wednesday to lift their mask requirements on public transit later this month.
The CBC reports Ontario will lift most mask requirements on Saturday, including those in hospitals, provincial chief medical officer Dr. Kieran Moore said. They will still be required in long-term care and retirement homes, and are recommended in higher-risk group living situations, such as shelters.
The Toronto Transit Commission said it will continue to strongly recommend that riders wear masks. They will remain required for riders and employees of Wheel-Trans, the TTC service for those with disabilities.
The Montreal Gazette reports Quebec’s mask requirement on public transit will end June 18, per a Wednesday announcement from provincial health minister Christian Dubé.
Dubé said the decision reflecting recommendation by public health officials is a sign of continuing improvement in the COVID-19 situation, and that the decision to wear a mask “will remain a personal choice.”
Masks will continue to be required in hospitals and other medical facilities.
About time.
Actually the best time to have lifted mask requirements would have been before they were put in place.
Really?
Canada had 41470 Covid death, for a population a little over 38M. Thats
roughly 1080 death per million.
US had 1010520 Covid death, for a population just shy of 335M. That’s roughly 3018 deaths per million, nearly three times as much.
Beside, despite all his flaws, the Canadian prime minister didn’t suggest we could get rid of the disease by injecting themselves with bleach, unlike some other leader who did on April 24, 2020 (and shall remain unnamed).
I’ll stick with Canadian methods, thank you.
