Labor official says 18 are brought back at Juniata Locomotive Shop

Norfolk Southern logoALTOONA, Pa. — Norfolk Southern has recalled 18 laid-off workers at its Juniata Locomotive Shop, the Altoona Mirror reports.

Citing information from Bob Kutz, president of the Blair-Bedford Central Labor Council, the newspaper says the railroad has brought back eight machinists, four boilermakers, three electricians, two pipefitters, and a carman.

The recalls mean approximately 318 people now work at the shop. “I can only hope that (NS) is acting in good faith to try to get people back to work,” Kutz said.

Last July, the newspaper reported the railroad had furloughed 86 workers at the shop while eliminating another 14 positions through attrition [see “Norfolk Southern furloughs 86 …,” Trains News Wire, July 12, 2021].
