Monticello museum hosts Railroad Days event (with video)

Weekend operations include three diesel-powered trains and restored Southern 2-8-0

MONTICELLO, Ill. — The Monticello Railway Museum hosted its annual Railroad Days event Friday and Saturday, Sept. 17-18, 2022, drawing hundreds of people to the museum in central Illinois. The event featured Southern Railway Consolidation No. 401 pulling a coach passenger train; Wabash F7 No. 1189 pulling a three-car train; a caboose hop powered by former Illinois Central Railroad GP11  No. 8733 with a wooden Illinois Terminal transfer caboose; and a freight train powered by former Chicago & Illinois Midland RS1325  No. 31. Echoing Wabash’s “Follow the Flag’’ slogan, the F7 featured large white Wabash Railroad flags while it operated. Video from the weekend activity is available below.
