Trains Washington Watch logoWASHINGTON — A Missouri congressman has introduced a resolution seeking to nullify the Federal Railroad Administration’s two-person crew requirement announced earlier this month.

U.S. Rep. Eric Burlison (R-Springfield, Mo.) introduced the Congressional Review Act resolution in the wake of the FRA requirement [see “FRA issues rule requiring two-person train crews,” Trains News Wire, April 2, 2024]. Co-sponsors include Reps. Scott Perry (R-Pa.) and Randy Weber (R-Texas).

Burlison said in a press release that the rule is “misguided and imposes unnecessary burdens on small buisneses while simultaneously failing to enhance safety, its supposed intention. … We should reject this burdensome regulation and instead prioritize allowing the rail industry, which understands  its operations best, to thrive without government intervention.”

Burlison introduced his resolution after four railroads went to court to block the FRA rule [see “Railroads file suits …,” News Wire, April 11, 2024].

  1. “Burlison said in a press release that the rule is “misguided and imposes unnecessary burdens on small buisneses…” So he thinks BNSF is a small business? These three clowns the minute there’s a derailment with a 1 person crew will be doing tap dancing as they’re called out for their actions, oh yet to see their noses getting longer too.

  2. So he’s willing to cut his constituents throats for the sake of his obvious relationship with the railroads and their pocketbooks. What a worm…….

    1. honestly I completely 100% agree with you kris, —- which is, honestly, why railroad insurance carriers, railroad risk management, rail labor, and rail company owners, should implement it. while the federal government should mind its own business and clean up its own colossal messes and deal with its own colossal incompetence

  3. Go spend a week working with train crews and see what it’s really like out there. You can will change your mind quickly.

  4. Three republicans, looking out for their big business friends and more donations. Safety? The safety of their corporate sponsors bottom lines.

  5. Well it’s not obvious who pays his paychecks!!!!!!!! Why would any congressman unless they’re on the take care one iota about matters of train crew size!!!!!!!! His press release is straight out of the AARs website and response to the fra rule making…..I bet he wouldn’t even know where to find a train in his district.

    1. This guy’s district is a huge BNSF terminal, I would bet he is very familiar with the railroad, one of the largest employers in the city.
