WMATA (DC Metro) logoARLINGTON, Va. — Full operation was restored Friday morning on the DC Metrorail Blue Line, more than two days after service was halted between the Arlington Cemetery and Foggy Bottom stations as the result of a derailment.

An investigation led by the National Transportation Safety Board is continuing after one car of a train derailed near the cemetery station on Tuesday afternoon [see “NTSB to take lead role …,” Trains News Wire, Oct. 14, 2021].

WTOP radio reports Paul C. Smedberg, chairman of Metro’s board of directors, on Thursday issued a statement saying the board “is closely monitoring this week’s investigation of the Blue Line derailment. We are respecting the NTSB investigation process and understand our riders, stakeholders and the public want answers that will come from a full and thorough examination of the incident. We appreciate your patience through this process and await the NTSB’s determination on the cause and any early action items that will inform the Board in our oversight role of Metro.”
