CSX logoCSX Transportation and Union Pacific both had trains derail Friday morning, with no injuries in either incident.

An estimated 12 to 15 cars of a CSX train derailed at the CSX yard in Augusta, Ga., the Augusta Chronicle reports.

The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office reported no hazardous materials were involved. A CSX release said the cars were empty and the cause is under investigation.

The accident occurred at Columbia Nitrogen Road under Interstate 520; photos show some cars stacked to the height of the highway overpass, although the bridge itself does not appear to have been struck.

A photo on the station website shows at least four tracks blocked by the derailment, with railcars on two tracks involved. The railroad said the cause is under investigation.

It was the second UP derailment in Pocatello in little more than a week; a June 2 incident involved 15 cars.

  1. CSX has a derailment at Boyles Terminal in Birmingham at least once a week. Inadequate training for new hires or maintenance short cuts are the main reason. Foote and Boychuk have succeeded in turning CSX into a total shit show.

  2. I saw the CSX picture. Perhaps we are dealing with mega trains on infrastructure constructed for shorter cars and shorter trains.
