Diesel locomotives power a coal train
With turbochargers screaming but not making much more than walking speed, a Burlington Northern eastbound loaded unit coal train claws its way up the 1.55% grade of Nebraska’s Crawford Hill on Sept. 30, 1989. The locomotives in the foreground are approaching Windy Point on Crawford’s horseshoe curve, the rear of the train, with a trio of SD40-2s and fuel tender acting as pushers, can be seen across the valley.
