Union Pacific has released detailed schedule information for the 2021 tour of Big Boy No. 4014, which begins Aug. 5 (Union Pacific)

CHEYENNE, Wyo. — Union Pacific has released the full schedule for Big Boy No. 4014’s 2021 tour, an almost month-long, 10-state tour which begins Aug. 5 and concludes Sept. 7, and includes one opportunity to ride behind the locomotive. The railroad also said the locomotive will have a break-in run this Thursday and Friday.

The full schedule, with daily stops, layovers, and display days, is available here, on the heritage section of the Union Pacific website.

The excursion is set for Aug. 22, between New Orleans and Plaquemine, La., to raise funds for the Union Pacific Museum. Museum patrons will get first chance at tickets; information on joining the museum is available here. Specific ticket information has not yet been released but will eventually be available here.

The break-in run will see No. 4014 run from Cheyenne to Denver on Thursday, with a return trip on Friday. UP said it will not offer specific schedule or location information for this trip.
