ORLANDO, Fla. – Universal Orlando Resort has filed an application with Orange County, Fla., to “form a quasi-governmental body that will plan, finance, construct, operate, own, and maintain a new SunRail commuter rail station at the Orange County Convention Center,” the Associated Press reported. The resort has pledged 13 acres for the project. A line would connect the station with Brightline’s route to Orlando International Airport, set to open later this year. The line would open by 2030.

SunRail began operations in 2014 and currently operates over 49 miles with 16 stations through Volusia, Seminole, Orange, and Osceola counties. A contract to build a new 12.2-mile extension that will connect SunRail from the DeBary Station to the DeLand Amtrak Station was signed in August 2022 with Herzog Contracting.
