Union Pacific logo without slogan. UP Bailey Yard explosion appear to be accidental.NACOGDOCHES, Texas — A Union Pacific employee was killed Monday (June 9) in an incident near a grade crossing, the Nacogdoches Police Department reports.

KETK-TV reports that police responded to a report of an individual struck by a train about 3:28 p.m. Union Pacific, in a statement to the station, said, “We are saddened by the loss of a Union Pacific employee in Nacogdoches … Our sincerest sympathies are with his family, friends. and co-workers.” The incident is under investigation, the railroad said.

The National Transportation Safety Board said in a Tuesday evening email to Trains News Wire that it has opened an investigation into the incident.

The East Texas community of Nacogdoches is approximately 143 miles north of Houston and 163 miles southeast of Dallas. It is on UP’s Lufkin Subdivision.
