BOOTON, N.J. — NJ Transit will be operating a special, one-day shuttle service on Sept. 28, 2025, to connect Denville and Boonton, thus facilitating access to the United Railroad Historical Society of New Jersey’s annual Railroad Museum [for a day] event. This temporary service aims to accommodate and attract event attendees who’re looking to travel by rail.

Marketed as the “Boonton Scoot,” this service will connect with selected, regularly scheduled NJ Transit trains from New York’s Penn Station at the Denville Station. The shuttle will then make round-trips to and from the Boonton station, which is a 6-minute walk from the URHS restoration facility. “Alternatively, a shuttle bus will be available direct to the gate, with priority given to passengers with disabilities,” according to the society. Visitors to the event, which will transform the facility into the state’s largest railroad museum, will have the chance to explore over a dozen pieces of historic railroad equipment, and enjoy live music and other activities. A shuttle bus connects to the Boonton Day Street Fair in downtown.

Tickets to the Railroad Museum [for a day] event are available online for $10 for adults and $5 for children under 12, with slightly higher prices at the door. Accessibility options and further event details can be found on the United Railroad Historical Society’s website. While the “Boonton Scoot” shuttle will not offer real-time updates, riders can purchase tickets through the NJ Transit app or at vending machines. Visit the commuter service’s website for more information.
