Greg Scholl, who turned his lifelong interest in trains into a major video production business, died Dec. 9, 2023, after a long illness. He was 72.
His company, Greg Scholl Video Productions, is one of the last independent video producers, having produced more than 250 titles as he traveled North America in search of steam and diesel subject matter.
Scholl was born Dec. 31, 1950, with his love affair with trains beginning as his father, Warren, took Greg and his brother Randy train-watching at a young age. His interest in steam took him to Canada, Mexico, Europe, and South Africa. In a message on his company’s website, he wrote, “While our main interest has always been steam locomotives we have grown to appreciate the modern railroading, and enjoy the creativity that can be accomplished with this type of everyday railroading.”
He is survived by his with Kathi and daughter Heather; brother Randy and his wife, Karen, and two nieces, Alexa and Victoria. Visitation and service will be at the Moore Funeral Home, Batavia, Ohio, this week, with burial in his hometown and childhood village of Batavia. Details are pending.
