WEST CHESTER, Pa. — The West Chester Railroad Heritage Association is continuing efforts to raise $85,000 for the exterior restoration of the Glen Mills train station, built in 1882 by the Pennsylvania Railroad on its West Chester line.

Glen Mills and its ornate brick structure was served by the Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority until 1986. Today the station at 130 Glen Mills Road in Glen Mills, less than 30 miles from Philadelphia’s center city, is at an endpoint of the West Chester Railroad heritage rail operation. The 7.7-mile railroad began operations in 1997 under a least from SEPTA. It is supported by the Heritage Association, the volunteer, non-profit group dedicated to collection, preservation, and display of rail equipment and artifacts.

“The Glen Mills Station is a beautiful, ornamental building constructed of brick in the style of renowned Philadelphia architect Frank Furness,” John Nagy, vice president of the Heritage Association, said in a press release. “Unfortunately, time and weather conditions have taken a toll on the building’s exterior. We hope these fundraising efforts will help us restore the building to its original charm.”

Those interested in donating to the restoration effort can do so at the project’s GoFundMe page. Contact Nagy at penncentral1970@gmail.com for additional information.
