NEWARK, N.J. — After being shut down for more than a day because of storm damage, NJ Transit has resumed commuter rail operations on its North Jersey Coast Line.
Service was restored after 4:30 a.m. today (June 21, 2025), the agency said in an updated service advisory.
Service on the line to Bay Head, N.J., had been suspended Thursday night because of severe storms that downed trees on tracks and overhead wires [see “Storm damage halts some lines …,” Trains News Wire, June 20, 2025].
Elsewhere, MARC’s Brunswick line, which was also shut down Friday because of storm damage, does not operate on weekends but should resume regular operation on Monday.
When will the riding public on NJT recognize that the extended length of delays are caused by NJT neglect? NJT is not clearing the tall trees on its ROW that then foul the tracks and CAT wire during any storm. As well the trees that hang over its ROW can be cut back to the ROW line.
There of course are some debris that blow in from outside its ROW but not to the extent of 48+ hours of work to clear the tracks and CAT.
Well done NJ Transit! This effective service recovery helped avoid weekend backlogs and provided stability for upcoming weekday travel. Naturally, riders must have been quite pleased to see the swift return of scheduled departures…
