MONTREAL — The deadline for a strike against VIA Rail Canada by the Unifor union has received a fourth extension beyond the original time.
Unifor says in a Twitter post that the deadline is now 11:59 p.m. tonight (Monday, July 11) as talks continue, and says it will remain at the bargaining table “as long as talks continue to progress.”
VIA Rail Canada previously announced in an advisory on its web page that the deadline had been extended to 8 p.m. EDT today. Earlier, Unifor said in a Twitter post that the deadline had been extended from 4 p.m. EDT to 6 p.m. as talks continue.
The original deadline by Unifor, which represents about 2,400 VIA workers, was 12:01 a.m. today, but that was extended last night [see “Deadline pushed back …,” Trains News Wire, July 11, 2022].
