OMAHA, Neb. — Union Pacific’s Abraham Lincoln commemorative locomotive will be displayed at baseball’s College World Series, the railroad has announced.

The locomotive, along with cars from the UP heritage fleet, will be on display at the railroad’s “Home Plate” location adjacent to Charles Schwab Field, site of the baseball tournament, from noon to 6 p.m. June 13-18, and June 21-22.

The locomotive, unveiled in April at Union Pacific’s North Little Rock shops, honors the nation’s 16th president, who signed the legislation to build the transcontinental railroad, leading to founding of the UP. [See “Union Pacific unveils …,” Trains News Wire, April 30, 2025.] It made its first public appearance at a National Train Day event in Portland, Ore., in May.

Union Pacific regularly displays significant equipment at the College World Series, a longtime fixture in Omaha. Past displays have featured Big Boy No. 4014 [see “2023 schedule: Union Pacific Big Boy …,” News Wire, June 6, 2023], 4-8-4 No. 844, military locomotive No, 1943, and E9 No. 951. The Home Plate site was also used to display the locomotive honoring President George H.W. Bush, although not during the World Series [see “Locomotive, car from Bush funeral train …,” News Wire, Dec. 9, 2018].

  1. As I noted earlier, I hope this loco can make it to Springfield, Illinois. Either make a stop at the Lincoln Depot on Monroe where the new UP track is being laid down or somewhere near the Lincoln Presidential Library. Union Station is across the street, but there are no tracks there. The current UP tracks go in front of the Amtrak station 3 blocks west of the library. Those will be torn out in a couple of years.
