MONTREAL — Members of the union representing about 2,500 VIA Rail Canada employees have ratified a new three-year contract with the passenger operator.

Unifor announced Thursday (July 17, 2025) that members of its Council 4000 and Local 100 ratified the tentative agreement reached in June [see

The contract calls for annual 3% raises and includes pension and benefit improvements.

“This agreement delivers meaningful gains for our members at VIA Rail and protects the critical work they do serving passengers across Canada,” Unifor National President Lana Payne said in a press release. “We fought hard to secure improvements that matter to our members and to protect good jobs for the future.”

Council 4000 represents 1,800 VIA workers in station services, headquarters, maintenance centers, and onboard trains. Local 100 represents 700 employees including diesel mechanics, electricians, and railcar technicians.
