OTTAWA — Transport Canada is now accepting applications for up to C$10.5 million in rail projects to be funded under the Climate Change and Adaptation to Extreme Weather Infrastructure Initiative, part of the Rail Safety Improvement Program.
Applications are being accepted through Jan. 6, 2023; information the program and application process is available here.
“We must take immediate action to protect our planet from climate change,” Transport Minister Omar Alghabra said in a Nov. 24 announcement. “Our Government will continue to invest in measures which address the impacts of climate change. This is why we are providing funding under the Climate Change and Adaptation to Extreme Weather Infrastructure initiative: to address severe weather impacts on railway operations.”
The larger Rail Safety Improvement Program has an annual budget of C$21.3 million and has, since its inception, funded 774 projects across Canada.
