AURORA, Colo. — Three people were taken to local hospitals with injuries after a Regional Transportation District light-rail train derailed in Aurora on Wednesday afternoon, the Denver Post reports.
The accident occurred about 3:45 p.m. on a tight curve through the intersection at South Sable Boulevard and East Exposition Avenue. That location is about a block south of the Aurora Metro Center station on the 10.5-mile light-rail R Line. Light rail cars Nos. 316 (which was totally derailed) and 286 were involved. A portion of the line was expected to be closed for at least 12 hours as a result of the incident, with the RTD operating a bus bridge around the site. The RTD website offered no new information on service as of 6:20 a.m. local time on Thursday.
The injuries were described as not life-threatening. KUSA-TV reports 24 other people on board the train were also checked out by paramedics, and that a woman was ejected from a train in another derailment at the same location in 2019. The cause of the derailment is under investigation.
