PHILADELPHIA — Scott Sauer has been named interim general manager of the Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority and assumed those duties this week, the agency has announced.
Sauer joined SEPTA in 1990 as a train operator, following in the footsteps of his late father, Robert, who worked for SEPTA and the predecessor Philadelphia Transportation Co. for 30 years. Most recently, Scott Sauer had been the agency’s chief operating officer. His progress through the ranks has also included time as assistant general manager of system safety and assistant general manager of operations.
“I am honored to be entrusted with the stewardship of a transit system that is absolutely essential to the region’s success,” Sauer said in a press release. “My priority will be to commit this organization to a back-to-basics philosophy emphasizing the fundamentals that keep Greater Philadelphia moving each day: safety, customer service, and reliability.”
SEPTA board chair Kenneth E. Lawrence Jr. said Sauer would serve as the interim GM while the board seeks a permanent successor to Leslie S. Richards, who stepped down at the end of November after five years as general manager.
