MUSKOGEE, Okla. — OmniTRAX has added a 30th railroad to its stable, the 8.1-mile Port Muskogee Railroad in the Sooner State.

The short line holding company and Port Muskogee today announced that they have signed a railroad facilities operating agreement covering the inland port’s rail network.

“OmniTRAX is excited to expand our Oklahoma rail service to now include Port Muskogee,” OmniTRAX Co-CEO Dean Piacente said in a statement. “We are proud to bring our best-in-class rail service and safety to Muskogee, and we look forward to being an active community partner.”

The Port Muskogee Railroad operates a pair of GP9s, which last year handled 2,140 carloads totaling 184,890 tons, according to port data. Steel coils and pipe are the largest rail commodities.

The port is situated on the McClellan-Kerr Arkansas River Navigation System at the confluence of the Arkansas, Verdigris, and Grand rivers, and has 1,100 acres of developable property. Over the past 18 months, Muskogee has announced more than $4.1 billion in new capital projects.

“This is a big win for Muskogee and a big win for Oklahoma,” Gov. Kevin Stitt said in a statement. “Port Muskogee is securing world-class rail services that will drive job creation, support industrial growth, and strengthen our position as a top destination for commerce.”

Kimbra Scott, the port’s executive director, said OmniTRAX brings the expertise and experience that match the port’s growth vision. “With a strong U.S. rail network, close relationships with Class I railroads, and a dedicated team focused on Muskogee, this partnership enables better service, smarter freight solutions, and new opportunities for industrial expansion,” Scott said.

The port railroad interchanges with Union Pacific.
