NEWARK, N.J. — NJ Transit will add 36 trains to its weekly commuter rail schedule as of Sunday, Nov. 14, with the 22 weekday trains and 14 on weekends coming as part of the agency’s regular fall service adjustments.

“As rail ridership grows and commuting patterns continue to evolve, NJ Transit is committed to delivering a schedule that improves travel times and frequency aligned with customer demand,” CEO Kevin S. Corbett said in a press release, which also includes details on the additions. “Now that we have a full roster of locomotive engineers, we are able to support these kinds of service enhancements to meet the needs of our customers as they return to our system.”

The weekday additions include trains on the Northeast Corridor, North Jersey Coast, Morris & Essex, Bergen County and Pascack Valley lines. Weekend additions on the Main and Bergen County lines will provide hourly service on those routes.
