NEWARK, N.J. — NJ Transit resumed rail service this morning after a four-day shutdown because of a strike by engineers, with the first scheduled move a 3:47 a.m. Northeast Corridor line departure from Trenton to New York.
Inbound service on all lines was slated to begin by 5:10 am.; the last route to see a scheduled outbound train will be the Pascack Valley Line, with a scheduled 8:56 a.m. departure from Hoboken.
With the return of trains, the agency has discontinued its supplemental bus service from Park and Ride locations. NJ Transit has also extended the expiration date for tickets and passes that expired during the shutdown; more information is available here.
The Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and Trainmen and NJ Transit announced a tentative agreement on Sunday, May 18, ending the strike that began at 12:01 a.m. on May 16 [see “NJ Transit, engineers reach deal …,” Trains News Wire, May 18, 2025]. Terms have not been announced. The BLET said on its website that it will conduct an electronic ratification vote for its 450 members, but has not specified the timeline for that process. NJ Transit’s board must also ratify the agreement; its next meeting is scheduled for June 11.
