Railroad carries more than 500 passengers on six trains as part of weekend events
Northern Central Railway of York capped its 10th-anniversary celebration with a June 18 steam doubleheader pulling all available rolling stock. NCR 4-4-0 engine No. 17 (Kloke Locomotive Works, 2013) leads the much-traveled Gramling Locomotive Works 0-4-0T engine No. 85 (Vulcan Iron Works, 1928) southward up the grade at Railroad Park in Railroad, Pa., 2 miles north of NCR’s headquarters at New Freedom, Pa. NEW FREEDOM, Pa. — Northern Central Railway of York hauled more than 500 passengers on six trips during the weekend-long 10th anniversary celebration for the non-profit operation [see “Pennsylvania’s Northern Central Railway to mark 10th anniversary,”Trains News Wire, June 14, 2023]. Trips were powered by the railway’s Kloke 4-4-0 No. 17; Northern Central GP9 No. 6076; and Gramling traveling 0-4-0T No. 85. The two steam engines teamed up for a doubleheader on the weekend’s final trip.
