
BETHLEHEM, Pa. — The National Museum of Industrial History and Reading & Northern Railroad will offer a day-long rare mileage excursion on Aug. 6 using a pair of the railroad’s Budd Rail Diesel Cars.
The trip from R&N’s Reading Outer Station to Ashland, Pa., will feature a visit to the railroad’s steam shop in Port Clinton, Pa., to see the railroad’s 4-6-2, No. 425, undergoing repairs, tour the cab of T-1 4-8-4 No. 2102, and the wheel truing shop. In Ashland, passengers will have the choice of detraining to tour the Pioneer Tunnel Coal Mine or stay aboard for two hours of photo runbys. The excursion will also feature an onboard book signing by Hank Webber, author of The History of the High Iron Company.
Tickets are $99, with add-ons for the Pioneer Tunnel Tour and an optional box lunch. Passengers may also bring their own lunch. More information and tickets are available here.
