BOSTON — The rapid transit Red, Green and Orange lines will see service disruptions in May as part of the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority’s ongoing effort to address slow orders, while six commuter rail lines will also see service disruptions.

These service outages for maintenance have been scheduled:

— On the Red Line, a previously announced suspension of service is set for May 1-9 between the Park Street and JFK/UMass stations. Addtionally, trains will not run evenings after 8:30 p.m. on those dates between Park Street and Ashmont. Shuttle buses and fare-free commuter rail service will be available to offset the shutdowns; details are available here.

The Red Line will also see weekend shutdowns between the Broadway and Braintree stations May 11-12 and May 18-19, with shuttle buses bridging that segment.

— A rather modest Green Line disruption will see the Magoun Square station on the Medford/Tufts Branch bypassed on May 4 to allow work on an accessibility ramp. Route 80 and 88 bus service offers an alternative between Magoun Square and Lechemere.

— On the Orange Line, service will be suspended between Wellington and North Station beginning at approximately 8:45 p.m. on May 17 and all day on May 18-19, and again evenings beginning at approximately 8:45 p.m. May 20-24. Shuttle buses will bridge the gap between those stations. Also, the Route 137 bus will be fare free May 18-=19 and Commuter Rail service will be fare free between Oak Grove, Malden Center, and North Station the evenings of May 20-24.

A full 10-day Orange Line shut down between Wellington and Back Bay is set for May 28-June 6, with the route to be covered by shuttle buses. Riders can can also use parallel Green Line service between North Station and Copley.

Commuter Rail disruptions

— The Kingston, Middleborough, and Greenbush commuter lines will see service suspended between South Station and Braintree the weekends of May 11-12 and May 18-19.

— The Middleborough/Lakeville Line will be suspended between Middleborough/Lakeville and Bridgewater for nine days, April 27-May 5.

— The Fairmount Line will be suspended btween Readville and South Station the weekend of May 4-5.

— The Newburyport/Rockport Line will be suspended between North Station and Swampscott the weekend of May 18-19.

— The Haverhill Line will be suspended between Ballardvale and North Station the weekend of May 18-19.

Free shuttle buses will serve all stops in the first three cases. The Newburyport/Rockport line will also see express shuttles between North Station and Swampscott; other details on bus options are available here. On the Haverhill line, shuttle buses will be available between Anderson/Woburn/Reading, and North Station.
