SPRINGFIELD, Ill. — An Amtrak train suffered minor damage and delays Friday after striking a wheel from the derailment of a Norfolk Southern train near Springfield.

The State Journal-Register reports about six cars of the NS train derailed while it was working at a spur in the Scheels area, south of Springfield. The locomotive of northbound Lincoln Service train No. 306, traveling north on Union Pacific’s main line, shut down after striking the wheel. It was eventually restarted and the passenger train was able to continue.

Firefighters from Springfield and Chatham, Ill., responded to the incident, but no injuries were reported.
