WASHINGTON — The Federal Railroad Administration has launched a new public safety data website, which it says is a more user-friendly site replacing two older sites, one dating to the 1990s.
The updated site is available here. Required under the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act of 2021, it was designed by a group including representatives of the FRA, railroads, industry associations, state departments of transportation, and researchers. It offers information on train accidents, grade crossing incidents, the national grade-crossing inventory, employee casualties, trespasser incidents, and other data. Data is more sortable than in the previous versions, and presents information in tables, visuals, and narrative components.
FRA Acting Administrator Drew Feeley said in a press release that the new site increases transparency, and that the “new capabilities being introduced will afford users significantly more flexibility when querying our railroad safety data.”
The site will continue to be updated throughout the year and beyond, incorporating feedback from stakeholders, the agency says.
Great job done! Bravo FRA!
