WAXAHACHIE, Texas — Sixteen cars of a Union Pacific train — 14 of them ethanol tank cars — derailed late Monday in downtown Waxahatchie. No leaks have been reported.
KXAS-TV reports Waxahachie city manager Michael Scott said crews remain on alert but there is no immediate danger to the public. The incident occurred about 11:30 p.m.; the city said in a Facebook post that no injuries had been reported. Some street closures continue.
First responders and other city crews have secured the area around the derailment to allow Union Pacific to address cleanup.
Waxahachie is approximately 40 miles southeast of Fort Worth on Union Pacific’s Midlothian Subdivision. It is also about 30 miles due south of downtown Dallas.
