Fifteen cars of UP train derail in Oregon
Fifteen cars of a Union Pacific train derailed early Wednesday in Clackamas County, Ore., leading to a brief closure of State Route 99, KGW-TV reports. The Clackamas County Sheriff reports no hazardous materials were involved in the incident about 15 miles south of Portland, between Canby and Oregon City, Ore, which occurred about 1:30 a.m. No injuries were reported.

Sounder North shutdown extended through remainder of week
Sound Transit has cancelled Sounder North service for the remainder of the week because of forecasts for rain and a continued threat of landslides. Service was originally cancelled Monday because of a weekend slide, with the shutdown extended through Wednesday after another incident [see “Digest: Report offers final alternatives …,” Trains News Wire, Jan. 5, 2020]. Service is now scheduled to resume Jan. 11. Information on bus alternatives is available here.

Marion, Iowa, approves depot repairs
The city of Marion, Iowa, has approved repairs for its former Milwaukee Road passenger station, badly damaged in last August’s derecho. The Cedar Rapids Gazette reports the $72,475 contract with Point Builders addresses roof damage resulting from a tree downed by winds up to 100 mph during the August storm, as well as other work. The total cost will be covered by insurance. The current structure includes part of the original structure built in 1892, with along with new portions constructed in a 1990 move to City Square Park.
