JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — CSX was able to repair flood damage to former Baltimore & Ohio main lines in the Cumberland, Md., area overnight, allowing freight and Amtrak service to resume.
The CSX routes sustained damage during heavy rainstorms on Tuesday [see “Flooding knocks out key CSX routes …,” Trains News Wire, May 15, 2025].
“We’re pleased to share that we have returned to normal operations in the Northeast following this week’s severe weather event,” CSX said in an update today.
The railroad warned that more harsh weather may be on the way.
“However, we are closely monitoring conditions as new storms are expected to develop and continue through early next week. These systems could potentially impact the Midwest and Southwest areas of our network,” CSX said, adding that it would keep customers informed with timely updates.
This quick repair should be very well received. whenever a company just gets down to work such as CSX just did kudos to them. There may be some slow orders but Amtrak and other CSX customers need to thank CSX,
Totally agree with you Alan. When things happen on the Railroads, they get down to business. All the railroads seem to have the same mindset. Congrats and job well done CSX.
