Policy follows August announcement by Canadian government requiring vaccination for transportation workers

Canadian National logoMONTREAL — Canadian National has announced it will require COVID-19 vaccinations for all employees in Canada by Nov. 1.

In a press release, the railroad says the policy will apply to employees, new hires, those at CN’s wholly owned subsidiaries, and “contractors, consultants, agents and suppliers, and anyone who accesses CN’s Canadian properties. Requests for medical or religious exemptions will be considered by CN on an individual basis.”

CN says the move is in keeping with measures announced by the Canadian government, which said last month it would require proof of vaccination for rail, air, and marine workers, as well as  many passengers [see “Canada to require COVID-19 vaccinations for transportation workers …,” Trains News Wire, Aug. 16, 2021].
