WASHINGTON – Amtrak has wrapped a pair of ACS-64 locomotives in Crayola-inspired “Creativity on the Go” schemes in a nod to the iconic crayon manufacturer.

ACS-64 No. 621 wears a violet blue livery that features eight crayon colors that Crayola recently brought out of retirement. No. 620 is wrapped in Crayola’s dandelion, a golden yellow shade.

The locomotives, unveiled today, are part of a summer promotion: Kids ride free on the Auto Train and can take advantage of free admission to Crayola Experience locations.

    1. Wraps are almost always paid for by the sponsor, so in this case it would be Crayola…it comes out of the advertising budget.

    2. Let’s hope it is Crayola. Amtrak would be much better off spending its money on getting and keeping its wash racks operational than on this crap!

  1. Amtrak needs to get seriously creative with revenue generation in a wide variety of ways. But one small way is that Amtrak should bring back printed timetables, both the National Timetable and the Route Specific Timetables and SELL ADVERTISING SPACE on the timetables! This would generate additional revenue in a “productive way”, if for no other purpose than to inform potential and existing passengers of the cities served on each route and have the printing cost COVERED BY THE ADVERTISING REVENUE! It’s not rocket science, folks. It’s a lack of creative marketing and a lack of a focus on generating revenue, by Amtrak management!

  2. No, John. NO wraps on passenger cars; it’s already hard enough to see out the windows. Whatever incremental revenue is insignificant.

    1. I must agree. Heritage color schemes on locomotives are one thing, these wraps are another. Some are OK, some are gaudy – enough “art” like some of these wraps is rolling around on sides of freight cars already.
