SUGARCREEK, Ohio — The Age of Steam Roundhouse Museum will host “Steam to Victory,” a World War II-themed event paying homage to the role railroads played in the war, on Father’s Day weekend, Friday, June 13, and Saturday, June 14.

The event, from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day, will feature living history reenactors portraying World War II soldiers; military vehicles and equipment; artillery and small arms demonstrations; static displays featuring historic steam locomotives; short train rides on the museum groupds; tours of the roundhouse and its locomotive collection; and militaria and food vendors.

A schedule of events is here. Tickets — $5 for gate entry, $15 for the roundhouse tour, and $5 for train rides — are available online or at the gate.

More information on the museum is available at its website and Facebook page.

  1. I would upgrade this caution to a warning. Those hills are deep in Amish country. It can very easily be too late when cresting the hills and finding a slow moving Amish buggy immediately ahead of you. Going slow protects everyone.

  2. This one is up there with the California State Railroad Museum and the Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania. One caution though: Both the local police and the Ohio Highway Patrol are aware that this is about the biggest tourist draw in the area. You’ll mostly be on back roads. Watch your speed more than you might otherwise. Do not depend on your cruise control to keep you “safe and legal”. Be prepared to brake a lot when going down hills, While all I got was a “warning” ticket (+4 mph over the limit), the stress of the traffic stop is not soon forgotten! The museum is a worthwhile trip. Just watch your driving!
