A Monday morning update on the latest COVID-19-related cuts in rail service:
— VIA Rail Canada will dramatically reduce operations as of Tuesday, operating only one train per day on each of its routes in the Quebec City-Windsor, Ontario, corridor, with those trains stopping at every station. Elsewhere, its Montreal-Jonquiere, Quebec; Montreal-Senneterre, Que; and Sudbury-White River, Ont., trains will operate one round trip per week; and the Winnipeg-Churchill, Manitoba, train is no longer offering Sleeper Plus service. Other operations, including the Toronto-Vancouver Canadian, are suspended through May 1.
— The Portland, Ore., area transit agency TriMet will reduce most rail and bus service as of April 5. MAX light rail trains will operate on 15-minute headways on weekdays, with weekend service on normal Sunday schedules. The weekday-only Westside Express Service commuter line between Beaverton and Wilsonville will operate on 45-minute headways. Changes to bus schedules will vary. New schedules will not be available on the TriMet site for several days.
— As of Sunday, PATH train service has moved to a reduced schedule, the last of the major New York-area rail services to do. On weekdays, trains will operate on 10-minute headways, with additional trains during peak periods; evenings will see trains operate at 15-minute intervals with 35-minute intervals overnight. — Orlando’s SunRail will reduce service as of Tuesday, doing away with five midday round trips. The commuter railroad will still offer service at 30-minute intervals during the morning and evening peak periods. The new schedules are available here.
— Amtrak and CTrail Hartford Line trains are operating on a new reduced schedule as of today, with a combined 11 round trips (six CTrail, five Amtrak) on weekdays and revised weekend schedules.
