LAKE VILLA, Ill. — Brand new Canadian National ET44AC No. 3196 leads train M34391-24 through the northern Illinois suburb of Lake Villa. The locomotive was delivered to CN at Memphis, Tennessee by BNSF Railway recently and is making its first revenue trip since being assembled at Wabtec Freight’s Fort Worth, Texas, plant.
This locomotive is part of a multi-year order by CN for 260 locomotives, split between ET44ACs such as this and credit ES44AC locomotives, which are built using emissions credits. Even though locomotive orders have been weak for the past few years, CN is experiencing a crush of new traffic and is dominating new locomotive orders at Wabtec Freight right now.
