HARRISBURG, Pa. — A dozen railroads are among the recipients of more than $40 million in Pennsylvania Department of Transportation funding for 26 rail infrastructure projects throughout the state.
CSX Transportation is receiving the largest single state grant, $14.4 million for clearance projects to allow double-stack trains to reach the port of Philadelphia. Other grants range from $232,554 to $3 million.
A news release from the state DOT says the funding will create or sustain more than 390 jobs across the state.
“These investments underscore our continued commitment to building a world-class infrastructure system that supports the business community and the creation of new jobs,” Gov. Tom Wolf said in the release.
Other projects of $2 million or more include:
— $3 million to the RJ Corman Railroad to replace 25 miles of rail and 4,800 ties and build a 4,000-foot siding and two turnouts, supporting export coal traffic on it Cherry Tree Subdivision.
— $2.7 million to SEKISUI SPI to construct two spurs and install unloading equipment at its manufacturing facility in Armstrong County, Pa.
— $2.5 million to the Allegheny Valley Railroad to repair a bridge used by three railroads.
— $2.2 million to Arcelor Mittal Plate to rehabilitate 2 miles of track, turnouts, and crossings at its rolling mill and electric melt shop sites in Coatesville, Pa.
— $2 million to ATI Flat Rolled Products Holdings LLC to construct 2 miles of new track to increase rail capacity in the Pittsburgh area.
Other railroads receiving funs include the Gettysburg & Northern, Pittsburgh & Ohio Central, Union, Strasburg Rail Road, Lehigh Valley Rail Management, North Shore, Buffalo & Pittsburgh, Everett, and Wheeling & Lake Erie. The complete list of projects is available here.
