Norfolk Southern crews hooked on to Chesapeake & Ohio F7 No. 8016 at the North Carolina Transportation Museum’s Spencer shops earlier on Friday for eventual transfer to CSX and to Huntington. The locomotive has been at Spencer since the “Streamliners at Spencer” streamlined locomotive festival in 2014. The museum posted that information to their Facebook page.
EMD originally built the locomotive as F3 No. 800 for the Clinchfield Railroad and later served with CSX. It received upgrades to make it an F7 in the 1950s.
There’s no word on how extensive the paint work will be or where the locomotive may operate after CSX crews complete the job.
