PALESTINE, TEXAS — Trains Magazine and the Texas State Railroad will offer a weekend with a 1920s steam freight train May 2-3. The event is designed primarily for photography but will also appeal to anyone interested in history, short lines, or steam locomotives.

The Texas State Railroad’s Tremont & Gulf 2-8-2 No. 30 will pull a train of 9-10 freight cars and a coach to recreate a short line mixed train. Multiple photo runbys will be offered both days on the 25-mile railroad. Lunch is included both days.

“The Texas State Railroad, featured in our December issue, arriving in subscriber mailboxes now, and available on newsstands Nov. 12, is a great steam railroad,” says Editor Jim Wrinn. “We look forward to sharing the experience of seeing No. 30 on an authentic freight consist as she would have pulled in the 1920s.”

Additionally, famed Texas & Pacific 2-10-4 No. 610, normally stored inside, will be pulled out for display and photos.

Tickets for the two day event are limited and available at $595 per person. Details or to order:
