CHICAGO — Metra has resumed service across its Electric Line, but will be operating on a “modified weekday schedule” today (Monday, Feb. 4) as repairs continue to damage caused by a Canadian National freight-train derailment last week.
The Monday schedule is available here. Some trains have been cancelled and others will make additional stops, Metra says, because damage from the derailment has limited operations to one track south of Kensington.
Wednesday night’s derailment on CN tracks paralleling the Metra line, near Metra’s Harvey station, damaged two electrical substations and the structures supporting the overhead wires. [See “CN derailment keeps Metra, South Shore, and Amtrak trains sidelined,” Trains News Wire, Feb. 1, 2019.]
It will be the first time the entire Electric line has seen service since Tuesday, Jan. 29.
