WASHINGTON — Amtrak has expanded its train cancellations and schedule modifications because of severe weather anticipated because of Hurricane Dorian.
Today (Sept. 3) the southbound Palmetto will operate only between New York and Washington, D.C., with service cancelled from Washington to Richmond, Va. The northbound Palmetto will operate as scheduled.
Wednesday, Sept. 4, and Thursday, Sept. 5, Palmetto service in both directions will only be offered between New York and Richmond.
Previously announced cancellations for Florida trains (the Silver Star, Silver Meteor, and Auto Train) have been extended until at least Thursday, Sept. 5.
Restoration of service for affected trains is dependent on improved conditions. Check Amtrak’s website or smartphone apps for more information, and call 800-USA-RAIL to change reservations.
The area of the trains is not affected by any weather conditions.
It is not 100%, Amtrak’s idea to cancel service, the host railroads have something to say about that as well.
