Mars logoCHICAGO — The Midwest Association of Rail Shippers is establishing a new scholarship, the Craig Longardner Scholarship, to honor its former president and long-time member.

The Craig Longardner Scholarship, which will join other scholarships already awarded by the organization will be awarded to a single applicant pursuing a degree in logistics, transportation, or supply-chain management at an accredited university. Applications will be available soon at the scholarships page on the MARS website; no affiliation to MARS is required. Applications will be administered by the MARS scholarship committee, chaired by Luke Jones of GATX.

Longardner led Steel Dynamics logistics since 1994 until his recent retirement as corporate logistics director. He joined the MARS executive committee in 2001 and served as president in 2009, and was a major advocate in establishing the MARS scholarship program and its Young Professionals Group. Current MARS President Carrie Evers said in announcing the scholarship that Longardner “continues to maintain a passion for our organization by always being an exemplary contributor, mentor and guide. His efforts have greatly contributed to the growth and prominence of MARS as a rail shipper organization.”
