Model Railroader 2025 Calendar
Be inspired all year long with Model Railroader’s all-new 2025 calendar!
Re the drop-down bridge to Troy, rather than a moveable bridge model I would suggest replacing the narrow board with one about 6″ wide, landscaped on either side of the track. A little plaster to break up the flatness, some grass, bushes and even a small tree or two could transfer what is just utilitarian to a scenic feature.
Last I heard, the main yard was used mostly for storage, which is too bad since Andy designed one of the best yard layouts that I have ever seen. Two through mains, three A/D tracks, separate classification with a long drill track, easy access to the engine terminal tracks. A marvel, and such a contrast to designs on so many MR featured layouts that have the ladder right off the main with no drill. You could create a full half-hour video on M R & T yard ops alone. Would love to see that.
Fast forward to 2020….it’s always fun to see MR&T layout videos. It’s a huge layout and would be fun to run a few of my C&MN locomotives on that 200 foot mainline. The layout is so well done with all the combined efforts of so many talented modelers from many eras at MR with all the features blending together seamlessly.
Thanks for the tour Cody… always enjoy seeing it when I’m in town for Trainfest.
Like a lot of others, I am awaiting further episodes on the MR&T. Also curious as to the railroad represented by the second unit in the demo train. Paint scheme looked sorta Milwaukie Road before the last orange and black.
Still waiting on those “future installments”
Nice layout, just one problem, its too clean. Needs more weathering!
Can you do more in depth videos on the towns and industries of the MR&T. And an updated track plan too.
Wow! Great layout!!! I had great fun operating on the MR&T during the NMRA convention in Madison many years ago. The night before the open house Marty had me installing DCC decoders in new locos just received from Kato. Great memories. I have followed the progress on the layout over the years, but seeing it all at once is cool.
CODY Great to see the layout elements together.. Thanks
Cody, thanks for the tour of the MR&T. Now that I've finally had a chance to see the entire layout, I can say that it is spectacular. I look forward to seeing more close-ups of it.
Have yall ever thought about changing your walk thru from a manuel open draw bridge to a working, operating draw bridge.
I often wondered if the MR & T initials were also created to say "Model Railroader & Trains" magazines.
Very interesting! You all talk about the MR & T so often, it's nice to get a close up tour to appreciate what where some of the projects featured in the magazine are plugged into. I hope you have more videos coming soon!
Wonderful first look at the layout; thanks! You can never show too much MR&T. Great stuff!

Where are the rest of the videos? Also why are these videos so short
It's got to be hard to go to work with that layout just down the hall, then count in most it not all the staff enjoy the hobby. I would not have a problem with over time……Cody maybe you could tell us a little more about the Red drawn bridge, and how to build a bullet proof lift/drop bridge? The MR&T is sure one of the nicest layouts I've seen, well done guys!
Thanks for sharing – appreciate the tour and the quality of the modelling (and the video production). I look forward to the next installment.
still waiting for the other videos of the MR&T!!!!
always liked the MR&T Cody you and the staff did a good job I collect all the issues for building info. I like all the scenes gives me ideas on what to build.
Hey! Where's the more videos?
Great introduction to the layout. I look forward to more instalments; especially if you do a "how to" on the drop-down bridge Cody unfastens at the end.
At the end cody mentions more videos to come of the MR&T. Is this still something that is in the works?
I am glad you're doing a layout tour of the MR&T. If I may suggest, how about a "cab ride" around the layout? That's something I'm sure many would like to see.
Great video !! Thanks a lot for taking the time to do this video . We saw many of the improvements you did over the years , but seeing it all together is awesome . How often do you have a running session ?
