Model Railroader Contributing Editor Larry Puckett hosts our latest Product Review video to talk about the features on the DCCconcepts Aegis system, an upgrade for NCE’s Digital Command Control PowerCab. You can read his review of the system on page 16 of the January 2024 issue of MR.

The Aegis system maintains all the functions of the PowerCab while providing increased track power, wireless throttle capability, and a range of other features. The basic Aegis system includes a base station; 24VDC, 5-amp power supply; and wireless transmitter, handset cap, and lanyard for the PowerCab throttle. The NCE PowerCab throttle is not included with the Aegis system.

The base station included with the DCCconcepts Aegis system contains a DCC booster which can provide track power of 14, 15, 17, or 18 volts at 5 amps continuously. And that 5-amp continuous rating means just that, not 3 amps under normal running and 5 amps for short peaks. It also has output terminals for both main track DCC power and a service mode programming track.

The system is priced at $505.33 for U.S. customers order direct from DCCconcepts. The price may vary slightly based on the current exchange rate. 1. As a PowerCab owner I’d seriously consider buying this new solution if there is a way to integrate my two Iowa Scaled Engineering ProtoThrottles with the Aegis.
