The Whitcomb model 65-DE-19A served the U.S. Army in Europe during and after World War II
I have one and electrical pick-up is an issue. The traction tires don’t help. It really needs a keep-alive. I’m hoping there will be a replacement set of RP25 wheels from someone.
Does this loco have RP25 profile wheels or the European NEM style with much deeper flanges? Will it run on code 70 track?
Unfortunately, these “reviews” are more like advertisements. The flanges are not RP25. The guy at Piko-America told me they are reduced-size NEM flanges that will run on codes 100 and 83, but NOT on codes 70 or smaller. This is a shame, as this otherwise outstanding model is perfect for light rail branch and industrial tracks.
That’s a pity because it is a great looking model. So it would run on my main line (code 100 to match the Pennsy’s 155lb rail) but not on the industrial tracks where I want to use it. I won’t be ordering one after all.
You could always turn down the flanges with sandpaper or a Dremel.
