Thank you for sharing another Time Machine adventure. I was railfanning Tampa Bay with my best friend when Bob was on his Intermountain Odyssey and a long way from Florida to the Rocky Mountain West featuring active steam locomotives in operation. Would I trade if I could go back and relive those carefree teenage years all over again? No! Despite the absence of steam, Atlantic Coast Line and Seaboard but on a show of their own with some of the finest streamliners still serving Americans during this period. Best of all, I got to watch them together with my all time best friend, R. E. Taff. RIP Robert, I miss you!
Great video from good old days!
Maury Klebolt, now there was an entrepreneur of railfan excursions if I ever saw one. He died too early. One hell of a promoter.
I grew up in Galesburg & my grandfather ( E A Smith) was an engineer for CB&Q for 50 years ( I have his 30,40,& 50 yr pins). His last assignment was from Chicago to Galesburg passenger service. He retired in 1960 & died in 1975. He was a good man. I saw a lot of railroading. It must have been a good life. This video reminded me of many times when I hung around the depot and waited for my grandfather to come home. And of course, I had to watched trains.
Wouldn’t you like to be able to do that now?
I was on that trip. One of the best variety of operating US steam locomotives I had seen before or since. The video shows only a few of the locomotives we saw and photographed.
I enjoyed the article in a Trains special a couple of years back about this trip. The video images are a great addition to that story! Thanks.
Great video! I wish I could have been there
brought back many good memories, rode several Klebolt trips out of union station with 5632 and narrow guage trips to farmington,nm.
Great video!!!!
