CLARENDON HILLS, Ill. — Groundbreaking is scheduled for Jan. 6, 2020, for the downtown revitalization project including a new Clarendon Hills Metra station.

Preparations for the project began this week when a bike shelter was removed to make room for a trailer which will serve as a temporary station, the Chicago Tribune reports. The current structure will be torn down shortly after the groundbreaking ceremony.

The 60-foot trailer, to be located at the west end of the existing station parking lot, will include a heated waiting area, ATM machine, and handicapped access.

The $8.3-million to $8.5-million project will also include improvements to the Prospect Avenue grade crossing, along with work on adjacent streets. [See “Metra ups pledge to fund new Clarendon Hills station,” Trains News Wire, Aug. 30, 2019.]
