LOWELL, Ark. – Darren Field, 48, is slated to become J.B. Hunt Transport executive vice president and president of intermodal upon the April 1, 2020, retirement of Terry Matthews from that position.

For the past few quarters J.B. Hunt has been working on the transition of leadership in intermodal, where the company derives more than half its revenue.

“We believe this type of management succession with proper planning and ample time for the team to work together with new members is vital to a smooth and effective transition, as we have set up with Terry and Darren,” says John Roberts, president and CEO.

Field recently gave mixed reviews to the company’s interactions with rail carriers, especially in precision scheduled railroading.

Executive vice president of intermodal since 2013, Field joined J.B. Hunt in 1994 as a night dispatcher. Prior to his current position, he was director of intermodal drayage operations.

Field has also been vice president of intermodal marketing, and vice president of intermodal pricing.

He received a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering in 1998 from the University of Arkansas.
